Start Training for the Freihofer’s Run for Women

Now in its 8th year, the Freihofer’s Training Challenge is a 10-week program that helps 350+ women of all ages and running abilities get ready for the 40^th annual Freihofer’s Run for Women 5K on Saturday, June 2 in downtown Albany.  Beginning the week of March 19, women follow three or four training sessions per week, depending upon experience level. Group sessions are conveniently offered at morning, noon and evening in Albany, Saratoga, Rensselaer and Greene counties. The $55 fee includes a Training Challenge t-shirt, as well as seminars and clinics relating to strength training, nutrition, injury prevention, running form and core strength. April 1 is the deadline to register.

Grand Reading Jamboree is Coming

The Jamboree includes Diverse reading-related activities, all fun, all related to early-childhood reading. Food provided. Bus transportation provided from select locations in the city of Schenectady to Proctors and return. Dr. Magid is Emeritus Professor of Political Science at SUNY Albany

• Mission: RIF volunteers work on reading and conversational skills and vocabulary with needy 4-9 year olds, in pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grades 1-3, in Schenectady’s 11 elementary schools.

Hollywood Nights – Tails by Twilight APF Fundraiser

The Animal Protective Foundation is celebrating our star-studded event, Tails by Twilight–Hollywood Nights. The event will be emceed by Liz Bishop, CBS-Ch 6 News Anchor, and Steve Caporizzo, WTEN-10 Meteorologist and includes an extraordinary silent auction and highly dynamic live auction event!  “Hollywood Nights” is offering the chance for your pet’s name to appear in the star studded Hollywood”Walk of Fame”.  For only $25 you can give your pets the celebrity status they deserve by displaying their name among the stars that night!

More than 350 influential business professionals, community leaders, and philanthropic donors attend the gala and are highly active consumers who believe that every animal deserves a home.   This event is dedicated to providing funding for our care center including companion animal shelter and community spay and neuter clinic so that we may give medical attention, housing, food, and behavioral training to the thousands of cats and dogs who come through our doors.  Your support will contribute directly to their daily care and provide hope that each may find their loving forever home.

Curtains at Schenectady Light Opera

The brassy, bright, and promising year of 1959. Boston’s Colonial Theatre hosts the opening night performance of a new musical. When the leading lady mysteriously dies on stage the entire cast & crew are suspects. Enter a local detective, who just happens to be a musical theater fan! Featuring the songs of Kander and Ebb in their final original collaboration, Curtains is a collision of theatrical traditions – and most of all a fun and enjoyable ode to the stage.
