People Hear Thunder at theREP!
Guests: Jessica Wockenfuss, Performer and Michael Eck, Publicist
Some People Hear Thunder is a powerful musical love story—an uplifting tale of a young reporter, his true love in America, and Armenians fighting for dignity and survival in the face of brutality. Set between 1914 and 1915, in New York and southern Turkey, in the midst of shocking historical events, Some People Hear Thunder comes to life through song, dance and beautiful storytelling. “The play speaks to repression, it speaks directly to the global refugee crisis, it speaks to lost peoples looking for a home. It is very pertinent to our time.” Remarkably, the play also has local roots—some of those fleeing the contested region early in the century arrived in Albany, Troy and the surrounding areas, creating a tightly-knit Armenian community. Guest Jessica Wockenfuss: (National tours of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, The Little Mermaid and Spamalot)

The Curious Savage at SCP!
Guests: Jennifer Van Iderstyne – Director, Jean Carney “Lily Belle” and David Rook “Titus”
The “funny and heartwarming play” centers around Mrs. Savage who has been left ten million dollars by her husband and wants to make the best use of it, in spite of her step-children’s efforts to have her committed to “bring her to her senses” and thus gain access to her fortune. The dominant mood is high comedy, and the audience is left with a feeling that the neglected virtues of kindness and affection have not been entirely lost in a world that seems at times motivated only by greed and dishonesty.
The Civic Players cast features Pat Brady (as Mrs. Savage), Patti Noble (as Florence), Autumn Routt (as Fairy May), Laural Hayes (as Mrs. Paddy), Robin MacDuffie (as Jeffrey), David Quinones (as Hannibal), David Rook (as Titus), Joe Fava (as Samuel), Jean Carney (as Lily Belle), Christine Vermilyea (as Miss Willie), and Steve King (as Dr. Emmett).
Organization: Schenectady Civic Players
Event: “The Curious Savage”
