The Octavo Singers —- Mass in Troubled Times
Diane Deacon, President
Location First Reformed Church / Sch’dy
Nov. 15 at 3 pm – Ticketed event
Composed amidst the turmoil of Napoleonic Europe, Haydn’s Mass in D (“Lord Nelson”) is an operatic rollercoaster from despair to hope. It is paired with Bernstein’s colorful Chichester Psalms, a powerful setting of Hebrew psalms of struggle and compassion scored for brass, percussion, and strings. Short works by Bruckner and Mendelssohn round out this emotional program. There is sufficient off-street parking for this concert. In addition to the lot for the First Reformed Church, the Stockade Inn, St. George’s Episcopal Church, and First Presbyterian Church have kindly offered use of their lots for the concert.
