Below you will find listings for our interesting on-air guests for the next four weeks.  Check out the lists below for our great variety of topics.  We start filming at 10 am at Proctors Underground on Tuesday. A live audience is always welcome and there are plenty of seats. You can meet the guests in person and learn more about their projects or even get involved yourself.

The Soul Man Returns to the Sch’dy Today Stage!

Guests:  Don “The Soul Man” Hyman – Singer and Historian — Performing

            Don will be singing three classic DooWop Songs from the 50’s and discussing seeing these artists performing and their significance as NYC artists, their current status.

Special focus will be made on discussing ARLENE SMITH, the original lead singer with the Chantels and working with her as a valet on three occasions. On the last occasion she was made aware that she was being approached to be a part of the GIRL GROUP stamp collection that was spearheaded by Mary Wilson of the Supremes.

Summer Events at the Iroquois Museum!

            The Iroquois Museum is an educational institution dedicated to fostering understanding of Iroquois culture using art as a window to that culture.  The Museum is a venue for promoting Iroquois art and artists, and a meeting place for all peoples to celebrate Iroquois culture and diversity.  As an anthropological institution, it is informed by research on archaeology, history, and the creative spirit of modern artists and craftspeople.

Featured upcoming events include: “Tales from the Top: Ironworking Demo Days,” Niagara River Dancers, Participatory Mural Painting with Mohawk artist in residence Jay Havens, Iroquois Men’s singing groups, and storytellers.

Summer Reading 2017: Build A Better World!

Guests: Leah LaFera, Adult Service Librarian and

Kaela Wallman, Director of Youth Services Librarian

            Kaela will discuss the countless number of Children’s Classes & Events that SCPL will be offering the community this year at all 9 SCPL locations. Some include magic shows, hands-on learning with all sorts of animals, science experiments, arts & crafts and reading of course!

Leah (for the Adults) & Kaela (for the Children) will discuss the Summer Reading Challenge for this year. SCPL will be utilizing an online reading tracker called BEANSTACK. SCPL guests who want to participate can go to our website, www.scpl.org to find the link to our BEANSTACK site. For each book that you read and log on BEANSTACK, you will be given one raffle chance to win fun prizes; Adults will be able to win a specially made up gift basket at their branch location.

3rd Annual Electric City Comic Con!

Guests:  Leah LaFera, Adult Services Librarian and

Shane Moore, Artist/ Creator of Voltage (ECCC Mascot Hero)

            Leah will discuss our 3rd Annual Electric City Comic Con; along with some of the artists attending this year (quite a few new ones), our Comics Commons vendors, programs for every age group and lastly the grand Cosplay Costume Contest sponsored by The Costumer at 3pm in the McChesney Room.

Shane will be on hand to discuss how he came up with the Voltage character, who she is, what it is like to be an artist in today’s world producing self-published comic books, and what makes SCPL’s Electric City Comic Con special compared to other cons in the region

We also try to highlight local artists and musicians whenever possible.
