“OZ” A Short Paly by Don Zolidis

Jill McManus “Glinda the Witch” & Melinda Burns, Wildwood

            The Wildwood Theater Arts Players present Oz: A Short Play by Don Zolidis. Reeling from her sister’s death, Beth suddenly finds herself journeying through a world suspiciously resembling the film The Wizard of Oz.  But, with the yellow brick road sold, the Scarecrow in a state of bliss, the Cowardly Lion acting, well, cowardly, and the Tin Man emotionally numb, Beth wonders what role she plays in this classic story gone awry. A hilarious and heart-wrenching exploration of grief and perseverance on the road to acceptance.

Theater Arts performances are supported by The Review Foundation and the Lucille Herold Trust Grant. Performances are open to the public. Adult Education has been providing classes and learning opportunities for almost 20 years. Students must be over 18 years of age to enroll in Adult Education. STEM Classes /Asteroid & Bubble Day

Summer STEM Classes

Weeklong summer STEM classes for students in grades K-8, July 2 – August 31. Explore Topics like robotics, chemistry, manufacturing, astronomy, space academies, crime lab science and more. Hands-on activities in the classroom, plus time in miSci’s interactive galleries. Before and after care available. Registration online at miSci.org. Scholarships available. Free lunches available through Schenectady Inner City Mission.

Asteroid Day

Did you know that there are over 150 million asteroids in our solar system? Most of them orbit the sun in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, and some are hundreds of miles wide! International Asteroid Day is a global awareness campaign where people from around the world come together to learn about asteroids and what we can do to protect our planet, families, communities, and future generations from future asteroid impacts. Asteroid Day is held each year on June 30, the anniversary of the largest impact in recent history, the 1908 Tunguska event in Siberia. Asteroid Day events around the world range from lectures and other educational programs to live concerts and broader community events, to raise public awareness of the need for increased detection and tracking of asteroids. The Dudley Observatory at miSci will present space themed activities, and display some of miSci and Dudley Observatory’s meteorite collection:

Solar observing through a telescope (weather depending)

Meteorite meteor-wrong: experimenting with different rocks to determine what is a meteorite and what is an Earth rock

Creating Craters: making craters with asteroids in simulated moon soil

Touch a meteorite: guests will have the opportunity to touch and explore real meteorites from space from the Dudley Observatory collections.

Bubble Day

Bubble day will consist of outdoor bubble fun!

Strawberry and Gourmet Food Festival

            A family oriented event along the Upper Union Street Shopping District. Sample restaurant cuisine, as well as local food artisan wares. Artwork, crafts, food and clothing vendors will be spread throughout the district. Balloon animals, face painting, bouncy bounce and pony rides for the kids. Great music, too.

Author: A Real Whole Lot

Jacqueline A. Kane PhD, Author

            The book “A Real Whole Lot: A World War II Soldier’s Love Letters to His Wife” by Jacqueline A. Kane, Ph.D. allows the reader to glimpse love eternal! Love’s depth is most poignant when heard in the voice when handwritten on a found sheet of paper.  Upon their deaths, the love of Baltimore, MD natives Phil and Jack, is revealed in some 200 transcribed v-mail and a dozen paper letters found while going through family papers. Largely from Phil to Jack while he was serving in the Army during WWII, these letters provide a mere glimpse of the author’s parent’s intense love for each other during the early years of their sixty-six-year marriage. As recent HBCU graduates, they were separated during most of their first 4 plus years of marriage. On the pages of this book is an opportunity for the reader to share the feelings that this couple strove to communicate to each other during their separation.

FEN Educates and Supports its members so that they may achieve this.

FEN also supports the work of Compassion & Choices and Death with Dignity.  These organizations work toward achieving legislation which allows for PAD (Physician Aid in Dying).

FEN also supports organizations in the Death with Dignity Movement which work toward enacting laws which permit Physician Aid in Dying for people who qualify.
