Segment ONE

Shakespeare in Love at theREP

           A young playwright sells his new script. Twice. To different buyers.    He hasn’t written it yet. He has writer’s block.

            Capital Repertory Theatre closes its 2018-2019 season with the uproarious comedy Shakespeare in Love, April 5–May 12.  Directed by theREP’s Producing Artistic Director Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill, the show is a riot of mistaken identities, multiple roles and theatrical mayhem. And, of course, there’s the play within the play!

             No one needs an education in Shakespeare to enjoy Shakespeare in Love! Just a desire to laugh.

Adapted by Lee Hall from the classic 1998 film written by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard, Shakespeare in Love finds our man Will caught in what Mancinelli-Cahill calls “a collision of commerce and art, with love being the only, and obvious, solution.”

Segment TWO

Murder Mystery Dinner Theater – Engaged to be Murdered

Cristine Loffredo “Naomi”; Joe Fava, Board of Directors; Ann Parillo “Louise”

            Engaged to be Murdered, another of Schenectady Civic Players’ popular audience participation, murder mystery, dinner theater events, plays  Friday, April 12, starting at 6 pm at the Waters Edge Lighthouse Terrace ,Room, 2 Freeman’s Bridge Road, Glenville, NY.  This is another brand new one written by Amy Sarah LaMena.  Proceeds benefit Civic Players current Centennial/Elevator Fund Project.

            Doors open with a cash bar at 6 pm. where you’ll mingle as a guest at an engagement party.  Sophie & Tom’s engagement should be a time to celebrate!  But will the mysterious reappearance of Tom’s “dead” parents, and the acrimonious divorce of Sophie’s mother and father, turn the evening into something more sinister?

            At 7 pm you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner while the engaged couple and family and friends maintain a low profile.

             The “celebration” itself starts after dinner at around 8 pm.  The murder?  That’s right—the murder!  Someone may be murdered at the end of the celebration, and it’s up to you to help solve the crime! 

            Ticket price of $65 includes the celebration party and dinner.  Dinner choices: sliced sirloin of beef, chicken piccata, herb encrusted salmon, or veggie lasagna. For further information, reservations, and meal choice call 518-382-2081 and press Option 6.

Segment THREE

Repair Café Schenectady

Dave West, Repair Coordinator & Mary Singer, Repair Coach

            We are part of an international initiative that began in the Netherlands in 2009.   Repair Café promotes repair as an alternative to tossing things out.  There are now more than 1700 Repair Café locations worldwide. More are being opened all the time.  At a Repair Café anyone can bring their broken, but cherished, items to be fixed on the spot for FREE with the help of skilled volunteer repair coaches.  Our hope is that you will not only see your items get repaired, but you will learn how to make the repairs on your own, and have a great time! That is part of our purpose. We are not a “FIX-IT” service where stuff is just dropped off, when you attend a Repair Café event you are expected to stay, and to the extent possible participate and even assist in the process of making the repair.  Our hope is that we can teach you how to do things so the next time you’re faced with a broken item you may be able to fix it yourself.   

            LIMIT – 2 items per household and NO gasoline powered engines allowed.

            Here are some of items you can bring to learn how to fix: Small Electric Appliances, Dolls/Toys, Furniture, Wooden Objects, Watches/Clocks, Clothing/Textiles, Bicycles, Jewelry, and Ceramics. Kids can explore how things work at the kid’s take-apart table while their parents are engaged with repair. We are also going to have a Teen Tech Tutor on April 6^th, so bring in your new high tech gadgets and gizmos and let a Teen Tech wizard help you get it working.  Coffee and light refreshments will be available.

Segment FOUR

Alpha-1 Global International Conference

Richard Lovrich, emcee

            Richard Lovrich is an advocate for the Alpha-1 Foundation. Alpha-1 is an inherited, degenerative, auto-immune disorder that can destroy lungs and in some cases liver, tissue. Another name for Alpha-1 is genetic COPD. Richard, who was diagnosed with Alpha-1 in 2011, will be traveling in April to Croatia where he will be emcee at the 2019 Global Conference on Alpha-1. You may know Richard as the Creative Director of Proctors and theREP and you may have heard him announce at the Broadway Bash or other events to which he has lent his voice.

Segment FIVE

Lip Sync Challenge

            Schenectady ARC is spearheading a lip sync challenge to other ARCs!  Each chapter has their own identities within their communities but we all share the common goals of providing the best services to the people we support and striving to be a great place for people to work! 

            Our Lip Sync Challenge concept really came from conversations on how to spotlight various ARC chapters and improve awareness throughout our communities about who we are and what we do. What better way than to challenge each other and have a lot of fun along the way.   

            Participating ARCs include Schenectady ARC, Rensselaer ARC, Schoharie ARC, Saratoga Bridges, Lexington, Liberty, Warren/Washington/Albany ARC and Mountain Lake Services.

Karaoke & Talent Competition

            This is our 10^th Annual Karaoke event to further the Rotary Mission here in Schenectady which includes grants to various non-profit groups in our community.  This year we have added a talent competition component!

            Tickets can be bought online thru Eventbrite or follow the link from our Facebook Event page.  You can buy in advance from one of our members or send an email or call us and we will make arrangements.  Tickets can also be purchased the night of the event.
