It’s a Wonderful Life: Live from WVL Radio Theatre

            Meet George Bailey and all the residents of Bedford Falls as you’ve never seen—or heard— them before! Based on the classic Frank Capra film, this story comes to life as a live, 1940s radio broadcast. Five actors give voice to all the memorable Bedford Falls characters, accompanied by sound effects and music created live on stage.  

            WYNN HARMON (MAYS) is delighted to be back at Capital Repertory Theatre; where he appeared in Dr. Faustus, Taming of The Shrew, Race, Pure Poe. Broadway: Porgy and Bess. Off-Broadway The Lucky One, As You Like It, The New Yorkers. International: Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Candide; Royal Opera House Muscat, Oman, The Music Man.  Regional credits include; The Kennedy Center; Arena Stage, Long Wharf, Hartford Stage, The Alley, Shakespeare Theatre, American Conservatory Theatre, Huntington, Westport Country Playhouse, Cincinnati Playhouse, Baltimore Center Stage, Syracuse Stage, Cleveland Playhouse, American Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, The Glimmerglass Festival, Des Moines Metro Opera, multiple Shakespeare festivals; and eleven shows at The Old Globe in San Diego.             MARGARET E. HALL (DIRECTOR) is an International director, Equity stage manager and drama teacher. Margaret is the Associate Artistic Director at Capital Repertory Theatre, where she made her main stage debut in 2017 with AN ILIAD followed by the World Premiere of RED MAPLE in early 2019. She has also been directing the company’s On-The-Go! in-School Touring Productions for the past seven years, productions include: CINDERELLA!; FRIEND OF A FRIEND; ALICE IN WONDERLAND; PETTICOATS OF STEEL; A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM; SLEEPY HOLLOW; THEY BUILT AMERICA: WORKERS OF THE ERIE CANAL; PURE POE, THE REMARKABLE AND PERPLEXING CASE OF HENRY HUDSON!, HARRIET TELLS IT LIKE IT IS!, AN ILIAD and SHAKESPEARE: THE REMIX, as well as many of theREP’s summer youth productions. Other directorial credits include: CIRCUS OLYMPUS; INTO THE WOODS JR., DISNEY’S ARISTOCATS KID’S’; PETER PAN AND WENDY; and THE WIZARD OF OZ, as well as readings with the Capital Regions Troy Foundry Theatre and Theater Voices. Margaret is a proud member of Stage Directors and Choreographers as well as Actors Equity, and holds a BA in Theatre Arts from SUNY New Paltz, and an MFA in Theatre Directing from the University of Essex in London.

Tellabration’s Mountains

Kate Dudding, Storyteller & Producer

            Story Circle at Proctors is presenting “Tellabration!^TM 2019: Mountains” on Sunday, November 17, at 3:30 pm in the GE Theatre at Proctors.  This live spoken word performance of contemporary and traditional stories for adults and teens features 9 storytellers: Alden (Joe) Doolittle of Scotia, Kate Dudding of Clifton Park, Margaret French of Saratoga, Marni Gillard of Schenectady, Linda McKenney of Gansevoort, Bonnie Mion of New Baltimore, Eliud Nieves of Ithaca, Nancy Marie Payne of Berne, , and Beverly Schwartz of Latham. Karen Pillsworth, Storyteller Laureate of Kingston, is our emcee. Tellabration!^TM is a project of the National Storytelling Network www.storynet.org .

            Producer Kate Dudding explains, “This year’s theme allows us to share humorous, heart-warming and/or dramatic tales of people confronting mountains – actual, or virtual, or sometimes both. Many of our tellers can be viewed on Story Circle’s YouTube channel: YouTube.com/storybystory ”

            “A goal of Story Circle at Proctors is to bring the one of oldest performing art forms, storytelling, to the attention of the public,” adds producer Alden (Joe) Doolittle. “Tellabration is also a fund raiser: the profits from the previous twenty-three Tellabrations have underwritten over 100 storytelling events in the greater Capital Region.”

Author & Historian Bill Buell

Bill Buell, Schenectady County Historian

            Bill will tell us about his new book: George Lunn: The 1912 Socialist Victory in Schenectady, and his new role as Schenectady County Historian and his 41 years as a journalist with the Daily Gazette.

            From the Gazette Website: A native of Glenville and resident of Schenectady’s Stockade section, Bill is a 1971 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake graduate and a 2001 University at Albany graduate, with a degree in history. He has worked as a sportswriter and features writer at the Gazette since 1977. He currently writes monthly Landmarks and Focus on Faith features and also does Q&A s, personal profiles, historically-themed stories and theater previews.

Celebrating 75 years! NY Folklore Society

            New York Folklore celebrates its 75^th year in 2019 and the 75^th year of publication history in 2020.  Founded in 1944, New York Folklore had at its inception a social justice mission, to draw attention to the multi-cultural mosaic of New York State and to support communities and artists who are involved in the ongoing work of heritage production.  New York Folklore has been headquartered in Schenectady since 1999 and is an active participant in arts and culture activities in the immediate area and statewide.  Current statewide projects include a partnership with the Museum Association to support programming related to the Museum on Main Street travelling exhibition, Water/Ways; Legends and Lore Marking Program; and technical assistance and professional development support for artists and communities.  Locally, New York Folklore participates in downtown Schenectady cultural initiatives and is launching a documentation project of the Capital Region’s “Working Waterfront.”
