Animal Protective Foundation

Segment TWO
The Scottish Games – An Annual Event

How many Scots does it take to toss a caber? About 250…one to actually toss the caber, and 249 working together to present the annual Capital District Scottish Games to be held at the Altamont Fairgrounds on August 31st and September 1st .
Clan MacRae stated this annual tradition in 1939, and it has continued under the auspices of the Schenectady Pipe Band since 1978. The band will lead the Tartan Parade at 12 noon on Saturday at the Altamont Fairgrounds, and will have as many as 200 volunteers working on the Games Field while the parade marches past the Grandstands. These Scottish Games volunteer workers will be busy organizing events such as the Scottish Breeds Dog Show, the Bonniest Knees Contest, Children’s’ events, Vendor Booths, Food Services, Pipe Band & Highland Dance Competitions, Clan Gatherings and of course, the Athletic events. A few of the committee members have been volunteering their time since before the band took on the Games 42 years ago, and have seen the Games grow from a small gathering to as many as 15,000 in attendance.
The Massed Band performances are the highlight of the day for volunteers and spectators, as hundreds of pipers and drummers play at opening and closing ceremonies. Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance before August 20th. As always, children 12 years old and under are free, so bring the whole family. The Legal Corner
