Cabaret is SLOC’s 91^st season opener! In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close, a Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. The Emcee’s bawdy songs, along with the brash and glitzy performers of the Kit Kat Klub provide the backdrop as Cabaret explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich.

Gary Hoffmann and Melissa Putterman-Hoffmann will perform the number “Married”, which is sung by their characters, Herr Schultz and Fraulein Schneider.

Story Circle Events

Word Play: Awakening — The morning isn’t the only time when people wake up. Come hear stories about people who had unexpected awakenings which changed their lives. Storytellers: Betty Cassidy, Claire Beetlestone, Joe Doolittle, Kate Dudding, Marni Gillard, Nancy Marie Payne, Sandy Schuman.

Stories of Haunting — Stories of haunting and the haunted as told by master storytellers Barbara Chepaitis and Mary Murphy. A storyteller as well as an author of 7 published novels, Barbara is a member of the group String Stories, which brings original music, story, and poetry to classrooms and performance venues. A storyteller as well as a writer, Mary’s stories have been published in two anthologies. She has performed at the National Storytelling Festival as well as festivals and storytelling events, both locally and across the country.

• Mission: At every Story Circle show, superb performers tell rarely heard contemporary and traditional stories celebrating the human spirit. You will find that these shows are shared experiences between the audience and the performer, combining the intensity of a solo performance with the intimacy of a face-to-face conversation. Build A Bash

The 5th Annual Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County’s Build-A-Bash will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 5:30-8:30pm at the Schenectady Armory. This action packed event will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Jack Arnecke and Honorary Chair, Ann Parillo and will celebrate our Volunteer Honoree, Lauri Dittmer.  Fantastic food will be served by our exclusive Food and Beverage sponsor Mallozzi’s.  There will be tasty desserts, refreshments at the cash bar, music, games and the ever popular Tug of War Challenge and Hammerschlagen competitions.  It will be a night to remember!

Mabee Farm to Fork Event

            Mission of Electric City Food Co-op:  Electric City Food Cooperative, Inc. is a member-owned and operated cooperative marketplace based on principles of economic fairness. Our mission is to cultivate the health, self-sufficiency, and sustainability of our community.

The purposes for the Cooperative are to 1) provide wholesome food and responsibly-produced products to our member-owners and their families and guests throughout the community, 2) Expand social awareness of health and nutrition, 3) Support local agriculture and the local economy, 4) Promote sound ecological practices, 5) Offer member-owners an opportunity to contribute talents and abilities towards the success of the Cooperative.

The Cooperative shall operate on a not-for-profit basis and shall be empowered to operate for any and all lawful purposes and activities for which cooperatives may be organized under the laws of the State of New York and to transact any and all such business incidental thereto, primarily for the benefit of its member-owners and their families and guests and for the benefit of the Community.

            Mission of Schenectady County Historical Society: The Schenectady County Historical Society shares stories, inspires dialogue, and encourages understanding of the history, people, and cultures of Schenectady County.

Vision

The Schenectady County Historical Society will strengthen our community and be an increasingly vital destination and resource for those who wish to explore history.

Support of this harvest event will expand both organizations’ reach into the community and demonstrate your commitment to a stronger, progressive regional economy.

Proceeds from the event will support Mabee Farm Historic Site (part of the Schenectady County Historical Society) and the membership drive for the Electric City Food Co-op.

County Historical Society and the Electric City Food Co-op are teaming up to bring an evening celebration of local food with live music inside Mabee Farm’s historic Dutch Barn. We’re even sourcing ingredients from Mabee Farm’s own fields!

The event includes a locally-sourced meal prepared by area chefs, music by Justin Friello & Joshua Mlodzianowski, a cash bar, and a silent auction/raffle – all in the pastoral setting of a working farm on the Mohawk River.

This year we are bestowing the Schenectady Farm & Food Award to John Ackner, a farmer in his own right and the site farmer and blacksmith at Mabee Farm Historic Site. This award is given to acknowledge the role small farms play in culture and food quality — both historically, and today, and to recognize a person or business in Schenectady County that integrates local food and farm into the community.

By offering this award, our organizations aim to inspire dialogue and promote farm to table food in Schenectady County, as part of normalizing fresh food, and to strengthen and position local food culture towards greater sustainability and craftsmanship in a thriving and vibrant local economy.

Each Award recipient will be a Schenectady County business owner or individual employed by a Schenectady County business or organization who demonstrates a pattern of intention and action to source locally for eating, serving, producing, baking, brewing, distilling, or educating.

Capital Region Walk for R.I.T.A.

The 13^th annual Capital Region Walk for R.I.T.A. is a suicide prevention and awareness walk bringing together over 1,500 people from across the Capital Region. Money raised from the walk provide research and suicide prevention, education, training and support programs free of charge in the local communities the chapter serves.  The walk also provides support and healing to people who have lost someone to suicide or who struggle with their own mental illness or suicidal thoughts.  The event leaves people with a sense of healing and hope.
