Sculpture on Display!
Vincent Forte, Jr., Artist
Two different bronze sculptures of Sergeant Henry Johnson were sculpted by my dad.
First, was cast and installed during his lifetime in Washington Park, Albany about 1996. Second, I completed casting and install in Henry Johnson Park, Albany about 2007.
In 2014 Sergeant Johnson received the Congressional Medal of Honor.I completed the casting and install of the medal to both monuments this year.
Unveiling was June 5 (first annual Sergeant Henry Johnson Day).

Recycling for All!
Angelina Peone, Recycling & Composting Educator
Schenectady County Recycles is a collaborative partnership between Schenectady County and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schenectady County. The CCE,SC Recycling Educator develops and delivers educational programs and community outreach initiatives for both youth and adults in Schenectady County communities, with the ultimate goal of reducing the amount of solid waste being sent to landfills while increasing material recovery through recycling and other forms of waste reduction.
Master Composters/Recyclers are a network of trained volunteers who work in partnership with their local Cooperative Extension to educate the public and foster enthusiasm for waste reduction, composting, and recycling.
They help to extend the reach of the educational programming offered by the Cooperative Extension in many ways through volunteering their time and enthusiasm toward delivering outreach programs to both youth and adult audiences.
Anyone who has an interest in environmental sustainability can become a Master Composter/Master Recycler.
Master Composters/Recyclers attend ten training classes to become an expert in recycling and composting. These sessions are both highly informative and fun to attend, featuring many guest speakers, activities, field trips, and demonstrations.
Upon completion of the course, they receive a Master Composter/Recycler certificate and become part of network of individuals who work together to help achieve the goals of the Schenectady County Recycles program.
- Requirements: Must be able to pass a background check
- Training: Complete 24 hours of training. Ten (2 hour) sessions and two (2 hour) fieldtrips
- Volunteer Commitment: 30 service hours over the course of one year
- One Time Fee: $45 — Deadline: Aug 11
What are the benefits of being a Master Composter/Recycler Volunteer?
Through training sessions and workshops, you will become a more knowledgeable steward for environmental science and sustainability and acquire a deeper understanding of the importance of recycling and the art and science of composting. Through volunteering as an educator and through public speaking, you will gain valuable leadership experience that will assist you in developing professional skills and abilities. You can find personal satisfaction in serving your community by furthering the goals of Schenectady County to reduce the amount of compostable and recyclable materials going to landfills while increasing environmental sustainability. You will have endless opportunities to make new friends with similar interests and talents, and work with a team of individuals who believe in making Schenectady County neighborhoods more environmentally-conscious communities.
