Steinmetz Memorial Lecture

- Cherrice Taver, Prof. of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Union College
Union College and IEEE Schenectady Section present The Steinmetz Memorial Lecture for 2018 by Dr. Anjan Bose Regents Professor, Washington State University. Dr. Bose will speak about The Evolution of the Smart Grid from Edison and Steinmetz.
Dr. Bose is a Member of the US National Academy of Engineering, a founding Member of the Washington State Academy of Sciences, a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the IEEE. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award (1994), the Third Millennium Medal (2000) and the Herman Halperin Electric Transmission & Distribution Award (2006), from the IEEE. Before joining WSU, Dr. Bose was on the faculty of Arizona State University (ASU), where he directed the Electric Power Research Laboratory that he helped establish in 1982.

Summer Meals Program – United Way of GCR

The United Way of the Greater Capital Region is proud to have created the summer meals collaborative back in 2014.
The Summer Meals collaborative is comprised of United Way funded and non-funded summer meals sponsors, community organizations and state agency partners to plan, coordinate and establish summer meals sites across the Greater Capital Region. This collaborative includes:
- Troy Boys and Girls Club and Rensselaer Department of Youth in Rensselaer County,
- Schenectady Community Ministries in Schenectady County, (SICM)
- Regional Food Bank in Schoharie County,
- RISSE — Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus and Albany Housing Authority in Albany County,
- CAPTAIN in Saratoga County
- The Food Pantries of the Capital District
- Hunger Solutions
- And New York State Ed.
Working together, the summer meals collaborative has made great strides.
- Number of meals served — more than tripled
- 67,902 (2013) → 209,119 (2017)
- Number of sites — 200% Increase
- 32 (2013) → 96 (2017)
- Number of children served: 186% increase
- 1,463 (2013) → 4,182(2017)
Despite these gains, we want to continue to innovate and collaborate to reduce food insecurity in the summer for children. Our work is not complete.

Lake George Music Festival

From their website: Every August, emerging young professionals and celebrated artists from around the world retreat to Lake George, NY for the Lake George Music Festival. For two weeks, our roster presents traditional and experimental concerts, open rehearsals, public receptions, and informational talks—all held at an inviting and ever evolving range of venues throughout the community—from church to outdoor amphitheater, from art gallery to auditorium, from hotel rooftop to steamboat on the lake.
Voted “Best Annual Event” (LG.Com) in 2015, the LGMF has brought together professionals, current students or faculty, or alumni from many prestigious institutions including the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the symphonies of Atlanta, Charlotte, Kansas City, New World, Dallas, Detroit; Astral Artists, Young Concert Artists, Concert Artists Guild; and nearly every music conservatory in the nation including the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School, and the Eastman School of Music. Live festival recordings have been featured on a variety of radio programs including NPR’s “Performance Today.”
