A live audience is always welcome and there are plenty of seats. You can meet the guests in person and learn more about their projects or even get involved yourself.

Nick Bisanz Performs on the Sch’dy Today Stage!

Guests:  Nick Bisanz is a guitarist/vocalist

            From his website: Nick brings with him a broad range of musical experience. Hailing from Poughkeepsie NY and now residing in Albany, Nick has played and recorded, on both bass and guitar, with numerous Hudson Valley and Capitol Region acts.
During the course of his career he has worked with former AGITPOP members John deVries and Mark LaFalce and songwriter/producer Joe Henry. Nick was also a member of Hudson Valley punk legends The Doverboys and fronted Lie/Cheat/Steal featuring his own compositions, as well as one half of the duo Bisanz/Irish. Nick, in various bands, has opened for Bob Dylan, Glenn Frey, fIREHOSE, Blotto, Mike Watt, Shonen Knife, Willie Nile, The Trews, and many more. Nick was also a member of long standing Albany favorites The Last Conspirators. Nick played bass and guitar as well as co-writing the 2016 release “Hold That Thought Forever”.
Nick currently works with long-time friend and bassist Mike Grundy on original material and plan a E.P. of material in the near future.
Nick works as a solo and duo and brings forth a very large collection of cover material spanning numerous styles and genres. Nick can also be seen with his cover band, The Komrades.

Music Haven Summer Concert Series!

Guest: Mona Golub, Producing Artistic Director

            Our motto is Traveling the World One Concert at a Time. We bring high quality international and national acts to the Agnes Macdonald Music Haven Stage in Central Park in Schenectady for six Sundays each summer. We seek to provide a cultural experience that allows our audiences to hear or see or even taste (as our caterer provides ethnic fare to accompany different concerts) something that’s different, and beautiful, and carries with it a history.

Talented local and international artists are also featured as special guests at each concert. All concerts are free. Rain site for all concerts is Proctors, 432 State St.

• July 9 begins with Sharon Shannon, a superstar Irish Accordionist/Fiddler.
• July 16, Afropop pioneers Amadou & Mariam bring Mali to the stage.
• July 23, Septeto Santiaguero will transform Schenectady into a classic Cuban dance hall.
• July 30, Louisiana’s legendary Cajun combo BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet will get folks dancing.
• Aug 6 is jazz night with Amir ElSaffar & Two Rivers Ensemble. This is also the night of the Summer Social which raises funds for the series. Tickets for this wraparound event include dinner at the Park’s pavilion from 5-7 p.m. reserved seating for the concert and a backstage meet and greet. The concert remains free to the public. Aug. 13 concludes with Yemen Blues, a bold blend of Arabian funk, jazz and soul.

More Perreca’s joins Music Haven this season as stage side restauranteur, with a winning combination of classic Italian dinner selections and show-themed ethnic meals for purchase. Wolf Hollow Brewing Company will tap a variety of their locally-crafted brews on draught. And Ben & Jerry’s will scoop premium ice cream at each show. The Eclipse at the Dudley Observatory!

            Vision: The Dudley Observatory strives to be a nationally recognized center for educational outreach and historical research in astronomy.

            Mission: The Dudley Observatory provides education and outreach programs designed to bring the wonders of science, particularly astronomy, to people from all walks of life. We cultivate interest and understanding of science, science careers and scientists, and help non-scientists appreciate science in an approachable and enjoyable way.

Our long-standing commitment to the history of astronomy, and our library and artifact collection, serve as the platforms from which to launch vibrant and expanding educational programs.

All Dudley Observatory programs and events are developed with this mission in mind.

International Asteroid Day — Did you know that there are over 150 million asteroids in our solar system? Most of them orbit the sun in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, and some are hundreds of miles wide! International Asteroid Day is a global awareness campaign where people from around the world come together to learn about asteroids and what we can do to protect our planet, families, communities, and future generations from future asteroid impacts. Asteroid Day is held each year on June 30, the anniversary of the largest impact in recent history, the 1908 Tunguska event in Siberia. Asteroid Day events around the world range from lectures and other educational programs to live concerts and broader community events, to raise public awareness of the need for increased detection and tracking of asteroids. The Dudley Observatory at miSci will present space themed activities, and display some of miSci and Dudley Observatory’s meteorite collection.

THE FARTHEST – Voyager in Space Film Screening – is a spectacular 100-minute documentary that highlights the captivating tales of the people and events behind one of humanity’s greatest achievements in exploration: NASA’s Voyager mission, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this August. The film will premiere nationally on PBS on August 23rd, but HHMI Tangled Bank Studios and PBS are making it available to select science centers, including miSci, for public screenings. Preview the entire film at miSci on July 18th, plus join a Q&A Session with Dudley Observatory Outreach Astronomer, Dr. Valerie Rapson.

2017 Eclipse Across America — On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will cross the continental United States. The last time a total solar eclipse crossed the United States from sea to sea was June 8, 1918. The 2017 eclipse in either total or partial phase can be seen by over 500 million people in North and South America, Europe and Africa. Here in the Capital Region of New York, we will experience a partial solar eclipse where 66% of the sun is covered by the moon. It is a truly historic event and a wonderful opportunity to view one of nature’s most stunning displays.  Dudley Observatory at miSci will have all-day Eclipse activities including solar observation, live streaming of eclipse coverage, and more.

Night Sky Adventures — Night Sky Adventures are astronomy fun for the whole family! Educators from the Dudley Observatory, in conjunction with volunteers from the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers group, present astronomy lessons, planetarium shows and night sky viewing (weather depending).

Octagon Barn Star Parties — Octagon Barn Star Parties are an excellent place to learn about astronomy and get some of the best views of the night sky. Each night will feature a local astronomy enthusiast or professor who will speak about an exciting astronomy topic, then we will go outdoors to view the night sky far away from city lights. No prior astronomy knowledge necessary– just your interest
