and Gil Melchoior (guitar)

From their website:

After a 34-year hiatus, in March of 2012 Dr. Derrick “Doc” Horton decided it’s never too late to realize his dream. He returned to his first love, music.  He performed in singing groups throughout his high school and college years in his hometown of Norfolk, VA.

After graduating from Norfolk State University he put his music career on the shelf to pursue a Ph.D. at Penn State and became a college professor and public sociologist.  A Professor of Sociology at the State University of New York at Albany, Dr. Horton is a talented singer, songwriter, and producer.

Now he is realizing his dream of building a multi-media company:   HDH Entertainment. The foundation of that company is his Motown-styled party band: Derrick Horton and the Jay Street Band. Along with himself (Derrick) on lead vocals the band also features Phil Auclaire (drums), Chris Duffy (guitar), Ace (bass), and Gil Melchior (guitar).

Derrick Horton and the Jay Street Band bring their Pop-Funk flavored “Motown and More” show to audiences throughout the Northeast

About the Show

Where does food “come from” and from what is it made? Here’s a lively primer for urban bumpkins and upcountry gardeners alike. DIRT takes audiences on an extravagant journey of discovery into the Great Underneath-revealing the epic alchemy of plants, the fungi’s dance of mutual delight, and the microbe’s herculean labors. Featuring live music and a myriad of puppet figures ranging from 12 inches to 12 feet tall, the show reminds earthly residents of all ages how profoundly essential is the ground beneath their feet.

Arm of the Sea is an award winning arts ensemble that fuses visual story telling with live music in contemporary works of mask and Puppet Theater, celebrating 35 years of blending art & environmental education.
