Nano Days and STEM Classes

NanoDays at miSci is part of a nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science and engineering. This community-based event is the largest public outreach effort in nanoscale informal science education and involves science museums, research centers, and universities nationwide.

NanoDays celebrations bring university researchers together with science educators to create learning experiences for both children and adults to explore the miniscule world of atoms, molecules, A range of exciting NanoDays programs demonstrate the special and unexpected properties found at the nanoscale, examine tools used by nanoscientists, showcase nano materials with spectacular promise, and invite discussion of technology and society.

Hands-on activities invite visitors to explore polarized light, investigate how scientists use special tools to study tiny things, and imagine how nanotechnology could change how we eat! Other activities include experimenting with heat transfer and completing an electrical circuit using the world’s thinnest material.

April Break STEM Classes:

miSci presents week-long drop-off classes during break week. Classes are held daily, from 9 AM to 4 PM, and before and after care is available.  There is a 10% discount for members and additional children enrolled. Registration is available at miSci.org.

Grades K-2 | Space Academy: Crater Kids

Embark on a journey of a lifetime! Students will prepare for a trip to the moon by learning about and building rockets. Once on the moon, students complete mission-critical experiments before traveling back to Earth. End the week with a Cosmic Kids mission in the Challenger Learning Center.

Grades 3-5 | Space Academy: Comet Mystery

Explore interactive activities related to astronomy and space exploration with a focus on some of the smaller bodies in our solar system—COMETS. End the week with an Exploration Station mission in the Challenger Learning Center.

Grades 3-5 | LEGO Robotics
Build and program cool robots with LEGO’s Mindstorm EV 3 kits as your work in a team. Learn about coding through Little Bits and Makey Makeys. No experience necessary.

The Crucible  by Arthur Miller

            The Crucible is a classic drama written by Arthur Miller that is both a gripping historical drama and a timely parable for our times.  It deals with the fear and hysteria in Salem, Massachusetts over suspected witchcraft that resulted in the hangings of 19 men and women and two dogs.

Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt. She announces that she is about to publish a memoir, dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family’s history- a wound that they don’t want reopened. In effect, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it. They are forced to reveal a painful secret to her, in order to prevent the public from finding the truth.

A Wonderful Note:  The new elevator has been installed and is up and running.  The stage can be reached without using stairs!

Rapp Road Historical Association’s Event

This Annual Fundraising event is held every year. Friends and families of the Historic Rapp Road Community raise funds which will go toward the restoration of vacant homes in need of repair.  The Rapp Road Historic Association is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.

150^th Anniversary of Heritage Home for Women

2018 is the 150th anniversary year of the Heritage Home for Women providing service to the community. The theme for the year is “Reflections” as we celebrate both our illustrious past, as well as our future.

Next, on Thursday, April 26th at the historic Stockade Inn, we will be holding “Reflections – an Anniversary Celebration”. “Reflections” honoring our founder Urania Nott, will offer attendees a glimpse into our past while enjoying scrumptious fare, illuminating conversations and musical entertainment provided by the Women of Note. It will certainly be an evening to remember. We encourage you to join us for this event.

Saturday, March 24, as part of our 150^th Anniversary celebrations, we will be holding an “Antiques Roadshow Appraisal Day” at the Home. At this event, for $5 per item appraised, 3 professional antique dealers, who, just like on the popular television show, will analyze and appraise your antique valuables. Take a look at what treasures you might have in your home!
