Segment ONE

The Girl Scout Cookies are Coming!

Mary Buszuwski, Director

Girl Scouts: Gabbi Caisse, Shelby McNamara, Juliann Vadney

The Girl Scout Cookie Program prepares girls to be future business leaders. By creating a plan, interacting with customers, and working as part of a team, girls learn 5 Skills–goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics–to help them succeed in everyday life.  Girl Scouts will take pre-orders for cookies beginning February 8 with delivery in late March. Booth sales will be March 29 – April 28. New this year! Our council will participate in National Cookie Weekend, Feb. 22-23. Girls will be at booths taking pre-orders around the region. 2019 marks the fifth year that Girl Scout Cookies can be purchased online via Digital Cookie. This part of the Girl Scout Cookie Program combines the values and lessons of door-to-door and booth sales with 21st century business and entrepreneurial skills. Digital Cookie lets girls sell cookies from protected, personalized websites. For the safety of Girl Scouts, customers can access the link through an email sent by the Girl Scout or parent. Digital Cookie sales continue through April 28. Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York sell eight varieties of cookies: Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, gluten free Toffeetastics and Girl Scout S’mores™. You may have heard about a new cookie this year. That cookie is only available in select areas, we have offered a gluten free option for 5 years in our region!

All of the revenue earned from cookie sales – every penny after paying the baker – stays with the local troops and council. Girls decide how to spend their troop cookie money and reinvest it in their neighborhoods through service projects and learning experiences, including travel.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led business in the world. Across the country, Girl Scouts sell about 200 million boxes of cookies—nearly $800 million worth—during each cookie season. Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York sells nearly 1 million boxes in our region. Girl Scouts is the best leadership experience for girls. Girls gain important skills in four foundational areas that prepare her for a lifetime of leadership: STEM; Outdoors ; Life Skills ; and Entrepreneurship
