Segment ONE
4000 Miles at Albany Civic Theater

Ninety-one year old Vera Joseph’s solitary existence is entirely shaken when her disheveled grandson Leo, fresh from a cross-country bike ride, unexpectedly appears at her door in the middle of the night. Leo is in crisis, confused by an on/off romance, furious with his mother and grieving the loss of a friend. Can the two find companionship across the generations? This is an engaging and tender meeting of the minds. A finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Amy Herzog’s 4000 Miles is compassionate, intimate and funny as it examines the love of the family we choose, the family we have and the healing power of trust.

Segment TWO
Frog Alley Brewing

Join us in our Temporary Taproom on Friday February 8th from 5-9 PM, in celebration of Schenectady beer week. We’ll be releasing two new batches of the Mohop Series, #4 and #5!

Happy Chinese New Year – Confucius Institute

Chinese New Year is the most important holiday for Chinese all over the world. Confucius Institute is organizing a Fair with performances, activities and games to celebrate this special occasion. Performances include dragon dance, Chinese drum dance, martial arts and Chinese dance; activities include papercutting, Chinese New Year couplet, calligraphy, tea ceremony, Peking opera masks making, riddles and many more. Traditional Chinese food will be served as well.

Confucius Institute promotes and supports the study of Chinese language,
culture, and economy at the University at Albany and throughout the Capital
Region of New York State, fosters exchanges and collaborations between UAlbany
and educational institutions in China.
UAlbany Confucius Institute plays four major roles at UA and in the community:
1) To help local schools in the Capital Region and the UAlbany to develop and strengthen Chinese language programs.
2) To develop and support China-related academic research and artistic production at UAlbany
3) To foster a better understanding of Chinese cultural tradition and contemporary Chinese economy at UAlbany and in the community

Segment FOUR
Strategic Business Planning
Lisbeth Calandrino, Planner
This three hour class will explore the issues of aging in place. The aging population will sky rocket over the next decade and the United States will have to rethink how to deliver core services to this group. According to a survey from AARP, approximately 90% of seniors, if given the opportunity would prefer to stay in their own homes. This class will explore the financial aspects of staying in one’s own home, how to plan ahead, and the types of changes that will need to be made to make a home senior ready. It will also explore growing senior communities and how to help your customer make good choices and find the right home for them.
Three Hour class for Greater Capital Association of Realtors on February 1st in their training room. This is for continuing education units but it’s open to the public. The course is Aging in Place. What type of modifications do you need to look at if you’re planning on staying in your home as you age? Octavo Singers “Make Our Garden Grow”

The event will begin with a cocktail hour with music by Malcolm Kogut and a strolling fashion show by 22 Shades of Gray. A silent auction and raffle will be available, followed by dinner with music from “Candide” and “West Side Story” by Bernstein and selections by Gilbert and Sullivan sung by Octavo Singers with four soloists.
