We start filming at 10 am at Proctors Underground on Tuesday. A live audience is always welcome and there are plenty of seats. Winter Raptor Fest – 2017!

See native owls, hawks, falcons in their “natural” habitat at the NEW Winter Raptor Fest 2017 “Wild Encounter!” Watch for a live fisher, red fox, wolf and other animals along the way! Flight demos by master falconers highlight the agility of the aerial world’s top predators! Live Bird of Prey programs introduce you to a variety of topics, from adaptations for flight to Bald Eagle recovery. Test your birding skills on a horse-drawn wagon ride, have your photo taken at our Raptor Photo booth and sign up for free giveaways for Mom on Mother’s Day! Kid’s activities, food vendors and more round out this exciting weekend where raptors rule!
Friends of the IBA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit land trust conserving critical habitat for New York’s endangered, threatened and at risk grassland birds.

Rising Stars Camp-In $35 for Children | $18 for Adults $18 Evening only option available
Spend the night under the stars during this camp-in at miSci. Participate in a scavenger hunt and astronomy activities. View the stars with the guidance of the Dudley Observatory’s Rising Stars and enjoy a show in the Suits-Bueche Planetarium. Dinner and breakfast will be served. Recommended for ages 5+.

Astronomy Day is an annual event in the United States intended to provide a means of interaction between the general public and various astronomy enthusiasts, groups and professionals. One day each spring and fall, astronomy clubs, planetariums, and other groups of sky lovers band together to share the wonders and excitement of astronomy with their communities. Field Trip Zoom Classroom opportunity | May 5, 2017
Field Trip Zoom provides K-12 educators access to unique, live educational content created and delivered by a rapidly expanding community of leading museums, science centers, historical sites, zoos, aquariums, literary groups, wellness centers, arts and performing arts organizations. Dr. Rapson will present classes on astronomy and related careers to hundreds of classroom students worldwide.
Night Sky Adventures | 3rd Tuesday every month
Night Sky Adventures are astronomy fun for the whole family! Educators from the Dudley Observatory, in conjunction with volunteers from the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers group, present astronomy lessons, planetarium shows and night sky viewing (weather depending).
Octagon Barn Star Parties | Fridays monthly in season
Octagon Barn Star Parties are an excellent place to learn about astronomy and get some of the best views of the night sky. Each night will feature a local astronomy enthusiast or professor who will speak about an exciting astronomy topic, then we will go outdoors to view the night sky far away from city lights. No prior astronomy knowledge necessary– just your interest!

Concert by John Davidson!
Guest: Byron Nilsson, Glen Conservancy and Ron Burch, Glen Conservancy
Broadway and television personality John Davidson headlines this summer’s concert series at Conservancy Hall in the Montgomery County town of Glen. Davison has spent most of his life on one stage or another, yet his most captivating performances are those when he’s alone on stage, playing his guitar, singing his songs, spinning his yarns. In John’s words, “Playing and singing on my own is the most honest, powerful way to tell stories. It gives me the freedom to express emotions without any distractions. In those moments, I feel a one-on-one connection with an audience.” His program, titled “Roots, Roles, and Rhymes,” takes place at 7:30 PM Sat., May 6. Admission is free, although a $10 donation is encouraged.
The mission of the Glen Conservancy: To promote cultural activity in the rural community of Glen, NY, and to preserve the compelling historic aspects of the village, centering around a former church building now owned by the Conservancy and restored for use as a performance and meeting center.

Independent Bookstore Event!

Help celebrate Independent Bookstore Day! Meet Michelle Cuevas author of “The Uncorker of Ocean Bottles” – a gentle picture book illustrated by Rebecca E. Stead – and “Confessions of an Imaginary Friend” – a whimsical tale of an imaginary friend who doesn’t know he’s imaginary – that is perfect for upper elementary readers.
Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Because independent bookstores are not just stores, they’re community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers.
The Open Door is Schenectady’s locally-owned independent bookstore and gift gallery, serving the capital region for more than 45 years. We carry a wide selection of literature, with an emphasis on children’s books and those of local and regional interest, as well as an expansive variety of toys, gifts, jewelry, stationery, personal accessories and home goods.

Summer at the Sch’dy JCC!

Join us for the most fun summer ever at Schenectady JCC!
Summer camp at Schenectady JCC has been a tradition for more than 80 years. For 2017, Camp Chaverim’s Travels through Time theme will take campers (3 years to 6th grade) and tweens (entering 7th grade/14 years old) to different eras (from prehistoric time and into the future) to celebrate the summer and to help build teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship skills.
Camp offers a variety of programming and camp experiences, including swimming, sports, crafts, music, dance, science, nature, volunteer days, field trips, and overnights. Eight-, two- and one week specialty camp- sessions are available.
New this year:
The Clifton Park/Saratoga initiative that includes transportation for residents of Clifton Park and Saratoga
Similar to SJCC’s inclusive afterschool program and in partnership with Living Resources, camp has spaces reserved for campers with special needs.
The William & Estelle Golub Family Pool & Tennis Club will be celebrating its 30th season.
The large pool is outstanding and big enough to suit everyone’s needs. The deep end has two diving boards and a special section devoted specifically to lap swimmers. There is additionally a shallow section with a kiddie pool adjacent to the larger pool. Behind the pool, on the 25-acre campus, there are playing fields with outdoor tennis, sand volleyball and basketball courts adjacent to the entrance to the pool area.
The complex is available for rental for graduation parties, adult or children birthday parties, or any social event or celebration during non-operational hours only.
Special Celebrations include:
May 21: KAPL Employee Day – featuring Group Exercise Classes, Family Swim, Bounce House, Tours, Open Gym, and Snow Cones. Free for KAPL employees.
June 4: Chinese Cultural Day – featuring food, art projects, swimming (weather permitting), badminton, Bounce House, and more. Everyone is welcome!
The Robert and Dorothy Ludwig JCC of Schenectady on the Golub Family Campus has been in existence for more than 90 years.
