Kelly Adirondack Center in Niskayuna

            Located in Niskayuna on St. David’s Lane, this is the largest Adirondack Center outside of the Adirondack Park. It is under direction of Union College. It houses the Adirondack Research Library and is operated as a branch of the Schaffer Library at Union College. It is surrounded by the 111 acre H.G. Electric City Barn – Artists Invited!

            Electric City Barn is dedicated to providing an innovative hub where emerging makers and community members collaborate on projects that bolster the creative economy and provide meaningful skill-building opportunities for local residents – a place where creativity works.

The Electric City Barn is an innovative makers space providing opportunities for projects involving advanced tools and skills. It’s a place where knowledge, ideas, and creativity can be shared to enhance projects across several mediums. It also provides opportunities for skill based learning for community members. From artists looking to explore new mediums to people desiring to expand their skill set for the job market, the barn connects members for collaborative opportunities that benefit everyone involved.

The space is a series of studios along with scattered workspace to accommodate a variety of projects. That includes a:

  • Metal shop with welding capabilities and a jewelry kiln.
  • Wood working studio with tools for cutting, carving, sanding, and staining.
  • Fiber arts and textile studio for clothing design and construction, screen printing, and other fiber based projects.
  • Digital and electronics lab for graphic design, digital production, and digital visual arts.
  • 3D printing lab with recycled materials fabrication for plastic based engineering.
  • Small stage for performances and small theatrical productions.
  • Screen room for film screening, presentations, and private collaborative space.
